a. I learnt that being an entrepreneur can be very difficult as your peers might give you negative feedback.

b.I learnt that many opportunities might find you but you need to identify them and take advantage of them

a)I got the experience to present in front of a large group of students more than usual and I actually got nervous ,that was fun .

E^2 (Exploring Entrepreneurship) Camp Reflection

3 things that I have learned from the Exploring Entrepreneurship Camp:

#1 Keeping track of how much you spend and how much you profit is VERY important!!

    i) This helps you to keep track and see whether your business is worth continuing.

    ii) If it is, this will help you improve how much you spend and allow you to increase the amount of profit you earn /(o3o)/ Oh yeah!

#2 When starting an entrepreneurship business, go with your gut feeling!

    i) Of course, you got to check the market to see whether your idea already exists! Or if your idea is liked by the public.

    ii) If it is, then FULL SPEED AHEAD!!!!!!

#3 Teamwork is very important!

    i) Your team is your lifeblood for a full blown business! You can't manage it all by yourself!

    ii) So stick together, through the hardships and it will all pay off!

2 things that I have gained from the Exploring Entrepreneurship Camp:

#1 Inspiration! 

From listening to the story on how that 21 year old poly student started a tau heuy business, to the 2 dudes that created Carousell, to Uncle William's quail farm, it was all VERY interesting. It goes to show that business ideas and in fact any innovative idea can come from ANYWHERE! Isn't that fantastic?

#2 Determination 

After that camp, I got inspired to dream BIG. So, now I aspire to become (MAYBE) a businessman. But, I still have to do well in school. So, I now will strive to achieve the goal of studying and achieving well.

- How to come up with Innovative Ideas that are realistic.

- I learnt that teamwork and co-operation was also important within a company to run a business.

- I have learnt that risks are necessary in order to achieve success, if you see a opportunity, take it and never regret.

- I never really go to present since I was not there but I actually got to experience how its like to have so much pressure on, my teammates expected me to be there to present but I could not make it, luckily I was able to send the slides to them in time.

- I realised how solutions can be thought of in such a quick time, the whole idea behind Smart Save™ was thought up while I was unable to use my handphone while walking home during a sunny day.

1 lesson that you can apply towards the upcoming IE Bazaar.

- I now am more aware of whenever I think of ideas, so that I can note them down and make improvements to my current product.

Innovation and Entrepreneurship Camp Reflections by Johanna Lim Ziyun

-3 things that I have learnt from the EE Camp.
1) I learnt that to start a business, you need to know the trend in the market and the 4Ps (Price, Product, Promotion and Place) as this is important in order for you to make profits and at the same time, know your customer's needs. 

2) The second thing I have learnt is teamwork. No matter what happens, we have to stick as a team. Like the elevator pitch competition, before that was the preparation and it was a little chaotic but I had fun. I finally understood the meaning of teamwork, working together. It is not just one solo job but everyone counts.

3) The third and final thing I learnt is that it takes time to start up a business and to get it on the market. You have to choose the right product and find the correct target audience. It also takes a lot of effort and determination to continue the business, the going may get tough but we have to persevere until it is over. 

-2 experiences that I have gained from the EE Camp.
1) It was from the Carousell talk, at a young age (around 20 to 22 years), they had already started up a lucrative business. Sui Rui sacrificed his masters degree and Marcus sacrificed his job at Oracle. The experience shared by them left me a deep impression of business. In life, you have to make sacrifices for the things you want to achieve. 

2) The other experience would be the Foodlingo talk. The presenter, Wei Ting, worked at a food business when she was Primary 2. She 'upgraded' herself to working at a factory when she was Secondary 1. She had to juggle between school and the business. In the end, she had 3 food ventures and is planning to set up a cafe on her own in time to come! I believe that she has given me the will and encouragement to become an entrepreneur. 

-1 lesson that I can apply towards the upcoming IE Bazaar.
The lesson that I can apply towards the upcoming IE Bazaar would be that in business, there are a lot of factors to consider and we have to take risks, although the risks may be high, if we have a dream, we should just go for it! Apart from that, for the upcoming IE Bazaar, I will plan the costs and market the item or service that we are going to sell. Marketing is important as you will be able to attract customers and gain more profits. 

3 areas i want to improve on as a presenter- Donovan Neo

-I want to stutter less while talking. Sometimes when presenting I don't say word properly and it messes up my flow of the presentation.
-I want to be able to hold the audience in suspense or something like that so they won't get bored. Maybe I could make them laugh, or say something unique that they don't know.
-I want to use better hand gestures. Right now, my hand gestures are not that good, and they are pretty much useless. It would be good if I can improve on this

3 things to improve as a presenter - Li Ying

1. Confidence
For me, I usually do not have the confidence to stand up and talk to a class of 40, during the time in Primary School. So, I want to improve on my confidence so that I can speak up in front of the class without shaking and feeling very nervous.

2. Speech
I tend to stutter, slur and pause a lot of times due to the fact that I am nervous. So, I will try my best to pronounce my word very clearly and remember what I want to say. I will also try to calm down so that I will not stutter.

3. Tone
I think that I need to have a more enthusiastic tone as I usually speak monotonously.

Three things I would like to improve as a presenter - Kiang Jia Ming Kenneth (17)

1. I would like to improve on my hand gestures. I am able to do hand gestures, but they are repetitive or sometimes I do too many.
2. I want to change my tone, because I heard from my friends that I am not enthusiastic enough.
3. I want to be calmer during presentations, as sometimes I may stutter and feel nervous.

Observation:
Elimination-A lamp with parts taken out of it and when the light is shone it makes a beautiful pattern
Combine-There is a watch which show two different time zone
Substitute-There is a stand which looks like a tree/branches.With many different branches poking out of it, it allows you to put you jacket/clothes on i.There is also cutleries in the shape of twigs
Modify-Instead of the second and hour hands on the watch,they replaces them with letter
Learn From It:
I learnt that many sometimes a simple idea is the best innovation ever.In the red dot museum,there are some ideas which are very simple but yet we have never thought of that before


Your Favourite Exhibit

The green and black thing is a speaker that makes the sound louder it is not some expensive speaker that you buy in a store but just a simple piece of rubber and it would also probably be cheap and a better idea than the one where you buy in stores.That is why I like it

3 things to improve as a presenter - Darie

Know how to use had gesture

-During presentation,I would always stand very straight and do not not know how to move around.The presentation will eventually become very awkward and very boring so I think this is a point I could work on.

Be more confident

-When I am speaking I would stutter over words as I am not sure is the word I am saying correct and eventually I will become softer and run out of things to say.I should also understand my presentation better so saying it would be a breeze.

Write a script for it

-Another reason I am not confident is because I do not write a script as I always thought I could finish the presentation easy without any problem but everything changes when you are presenting.Usually I make up my script along the way in the presentation so that is why I also stutter over word.

Its element is modification.The lighting which looks like a tree works like a normal one but has light bulbs at the end of each branch.

Its elements are modification and substitution. The hanging upside-down human has a light bulb in it so it works like one.

Its elements are rearrange, modify and substitute. The lights looks light flower petals which are separated and put to use as lightings.

The one thing I learnt from all the designs is that we can be creative and can come out with unlimited designs fulfilling the task or criteria.


Your Favourite Exhibit:
Take a picture of your favourite exhibit that you like the most and explains why it appeals to you.

Its elements are combine and put to other use. The bird came from a decoration and so does the porcelain plate. By combining it, it may somewhat look like a bird bath. 

3 Things to be Improved as a Presenter - Ray

1. Gestures

I tend to swing my hands around a little and fidget. This is because I'm pretty nervous when I present. 

Solution 

Practice!

I have to be aware of what my body is doing be in control at all times. 

2. Confidence

Sometimes, I get confused on whether I said something correctly and I stop midway to think. 

Or someone asks me a question that I can't answer fluently. This disrupts the flow of the presentation and tends to lead to the audience losing their attention. 

Solution 

Practice!

Make sure that I am familiar with the content of the presentation like "the back of my hand".

3. Speech

I tend to slur my words together or mutter.

Solution 

Practice!

Pronounce each word with carefully and deliberately, especially the "d", "b", "s".

Reflection: Visit to the Red Dot Museum

The examples were:

Its elements in SCAMPER are modification and adaptation. The computer works just like the Macbook, except that it is able to rotate its screen by 360 degrees. This is its special function. You will then be able to view the screen of the laptop when it is sideways or backwards. 

Its element in SCAMPER is elimination. It is a clock but instead of using numbers to show the time, it eliminates it and uses words.

This is a solar-powered calculator, it is known as the X Mark II. The elements it possesses are elimination, substitution and modification. It eliminates batteries being used in the process and instead, it replaces it with solar power. It thus substitutes the batteries. They also have laser-engraved control keys so that the symbols will not wear off. This is a modification of normal calculators. 

 It is convenient to use. It possesses the element of modification. The gauge, which is often difficult to read, is attached to a rotatable metal footpad to facilitate a comfortable reading angle. This design has been modified to this extent over the years. It has a patented pinch-free hose with flip head to make it convenient to use. 

This product possess the element of adaptation. It was once originally developed as protective glass for military aircrafts. Now, it has adapted to the environment and is now, weather resistant, which also includes a water and oil repellent and last but not least, it adjusts to your present lighting condition.

The one thing I have learnt is that when designing, there are many possibilities and they are endless. We should not think of the impossible and let it slip past. I have also learnt that when designing a product, there are a lot of factors to consider and we can also combine or substitute items into one convenient product.

My favourite exhibit 

My favourite exhibit is the speed guard. This device actually relates to my topic of road accidents. Other than that, it shows the speed the driver is going at and whether they should slow down or not. I believe that this can be improved via various ways so we are trying to make it better.

This has helped prevent many accidents but still, not many people utilise is wisely. They just turn a deaf ear to it. The device is really magical as it can connect via the GPS in order to find the speed of cars and to tell drivers to slow down. I did not expect it to be invented but it is! This will help society, to make it a better place.

Be enthusiastic when presenting:

I always forget about this factor when I present because I am too concentrated on the content.

Manage my anxiety:

I sometimes get really nervous when I present to people whom I am not familiar with.

Give them a mental picture:

I should be very clear in my description so that they can visualise what I am describing.

Your Favourite exhibit

  This has a wide range of different types of kitchen items all compiled into one exhibit. It is very colourful and the whole thing filled up a whole room which is eye-catching. This is indeed a master piece in my opinion.

3 Things to Improve on as a Presenter - Nikisha ( ^ω^ )

1. Use less distracting hand gestures
I unnecessarily wave my hands around too much, which might distract my audience.

2. Come up with a better, more engaging script
To be honest, I hardly ever actually come up with what to say and I just speak off-the-cuff. I should practice more and come up with a fun, yet impactful script.

3. Understand the topic better
Sometimes, I don't fully understand what I am presenting, especially in group presentations. If I don't know what I'm talking about, how would I expect the audience to?

3 things to improve as a presenter
1) Engaging the crowd
We need to engage the crowd by having hand gestures and a voice filled with tone and expression. We need to attract the attention of the crowd for them to listen to your idea or topic. We can also do abrupt actions at appropriate times so that others will pay more attention to you. Other than that, the slides should not be too wordy and you should not read from them. 

2) Articulating your voice and having diagrams in your presentation
You need to articulate your voice in order for others to hear you. When they hear you, they will be able to listen attentively and at the same time, know what you are talking about. You can also show diagrams to illustrate what you are saying so others will not get bored. 

3) Eye-contact

They provide a direct link between the presenter and the audience. How you handle that connection

can make a significant difference to the outcome of the presentation. If you avoid looking at the audience - concentrating instead perhaps on the screen, your notes or your shoes - you'll give the impression that you don't care about them. You need to make eye-contact with them to show that you are serious about the presentation. You can look at different people but at subsequent intervals, we are not supposed to make it so abrupt and awkward.

1. Better Understanding
 I think almost anyone can relate to this. We need to have a better understanding of what we are going to say and what we are saying. If you do not understand whatever you're talking about, there may be an awkward silence when you forget what you wanted to say.
2. Confidence
Mostly confidence is affected when you do not understand what you're presenting.
3. Interaction
When you interact with your audience, your presentation becomes more interesting.

Observation:
Substitute: A machine that converts pet waste into fertiliser, it substitutes using a plastic bag.
Combine: A baby stroller with an umbrella.
Adapt: A toothbrush that has a removable brush so you can use a new brush when your brush is getting old.
Modify: A clock that used words instead of numbers or minute/hour/second hands. I guess it is easier to read?
Put to other use: A Yoyo that has a certain type of leaf for a mosquito repellent and converts its kinetic energy to light energy.
Eliminate: A water tap that looks like those automatic taps but has a valve on it while maintaining the same shape as an automatic tap. This saves space.
Rearrange: A shuttlecock that has a detachable cone so that you only attach it when you want to play badminton. They are seperated as the cone is very fragile in enclosed areas, once you detach it you can flatten it to a circular shape without breaking it.

Learn From It:
I have learnt that the products actually has the same purpose and has a similar mechanism, but are just improved on certain areas, like efficiency, space saving or adaptation.


Your Favourite Exhibit

 

This is the picture of the design I like most. It appeals to me as you are able to flip the display around so that you can adjust to your liking. It is useful as you can watch videos when you don't have a table and you can look at it like an iPad. After a little more research, I realised it is also a touch screen display, so you can use it like a tablet. So it can be a tablet with more powerful specs, which is impressive.

1) Can you find evidence of SCAMPER?

a) A ring that was also a 3-D puzzle. (Combine)

 

b) A light that used LED strips instead of light bulbs for easier installation. (Substitute)

c) The Drain Saddle, a bicycle seat which has holes in it. This was for water to flow through when a bicycle is left in the open and it rains. Thus, this design prevents the seat from getting wet. (Adapt)

 

d) Earrings that could be combined together to form a sphere. This prevents someone from losing their earrings. (Adapt)

e) The Faltwerk table, which can be extended without removing objects from your table. (Eliminate)

The products in the Red Dot Museum are mostly simple products. When we design, we must think in this mindset: Our product doesn't have to be complicated. It just needs to solve a problem.

I found it really cool that something like this existed, where that a vehicle can adapt to fit the given situation. I found it so mind blowing it the video showed me the potential applications for this. This makes mining so much easier and safer. I can't believe someone thought of this.

What drives Steve Jobs and what drives me

What drives Steve Jobs?

What drives Steve Jobs is his beliefs. He wants to be different, he wants to make a difference, he believe in himself. He perseveres and do not listen to the bad comments from others. To be exact, I think what drives Steve Jobs is 'I can' these two words. he believe he can and and he work towards his goal. He trust his heart and follows it he believe that for some one to strive, he/she must have passion. It is no use seating in a class and listening to stuff when you do not even like it. You will not want to listen as you will think that you are being forces and will not strive. When you like something, you will be a able to understand it, and listen and you will strive it is something in your heart.

What drives me?

I do not really know what drives me, but it should be to have a definite answer. I think that life is ridiculous as there is no fixed answer we live and die. Then, whats the use of even to be alive so what if we study so hard we will die eventually so basically I want to have fun in life and make it interesting since we are going to die why not have fun and die happily. But I think that this dream is never going to happen as we are force to study. I think it is ok for me to study subject that I have interest in and not those that I do not have as I pick up stuff fast at the subject that I have interest in. One of the subject that I have interest in is Maths and I think it is because it has a definite answer once I understand the method, I will know how to do the other questions and the answer is fixed. The answer is not like english which can be presented in many form. I am just using these subject as examples. Another thing that drive me is to ask and ask but that cannot be applied to all the subject and stuff in life. There are a lot of things in life that are not discovered yet and are waiting to be discovered, so no one will know everything in the world so sometimes people cannot answer my questions.
